The Light Cinemas, the UK’s fastest growing cinema circuit, is set to open a new 10-screen cinema in Stoke-on-Trent after Realis Estates secured the national chain to be the leisure anchor for Unity Walk – its new 435,000 sq ft development at the southern end of the city centre.
The Light provides a premium cinema experience showing the latest blockbusters; independent and international films; and live broadcasts of arts and sports events. There would also be a café bar, which will appeal to a range of audiences including families, young people and mature adults. The Light is planning to include an IMAX cinema, which would be the first in North Staffordshire.
Duncan Mathieson, Managing Director of Realis Estates said: “Securing The Light to operate the cinema at Unity Walk is a huge step forward for the scheme. By including a cinema alongside a host of new restaurants we will create a new leisure destination, which will greatly boost the city centre’s night-time economy.”
Keith Pullinger, CEO at The Light Cinemas said: “Unity Walk is a fantastic opportunity for us. The cinema’s position alongside new restaurants and immediately adjacent to the new bus station is an excellent location for us. We look forward to bringing our own dynamic cinema experience to the people of Stoke-on-Trent when Unity Walk is completed.”
The Light will operate alongside a host of new restaurants and shops including the scheme’s retail anchors M&S (50,000 sq ft) and Next (26,000 sq ft), which were announced last year (2016).
Mathieson continued “Now that we have both our retail and leisure anchors in place we expect to make good progress securing more new tenants as we move through 2017. We look forward to making further announcements in due course.”
